Gloves -
Five make an intermediate winter glove that isn't too bulky but I found to be warm enough for Highveld mornings but not too bulky. I ride with two pairs of gloves in winter for this reason. Swop to thinner glove when it warms up.
Alternatively get a pair of those heated gloves, never...
Having owned a G650x and a 990R (for comparison purposes) whilst the X served a purpose, the suspension was a massive let-down and strikes it off my list as a legend bike. I'd love to have tried one with a properly sorted fork and conventional shock.
Slight hijack - I'd love to know what it's like riding a dirt bike that's equipped with all that tech.
Launch control and quick shifter must make for a amazing experience off the line.

This. Enduro is a great discipline: challenging enough to quiet the mind, gets you to amazing places, great exercise, more than enough skills to develop to be stimulating and also has a fantastic community.
Whatever you choose mate, wishing you all the best 💪
Howzit Dogs,
Any recommendations on a good independent KTM specialist in JHB who can do some routine maintenance on my 990?
I used Offroad Cycles before and would again but don't have the time to take bike there and all the associated logistics.
Cheers,
Lim
I've tried many brands.
Leatt is the longest lasting, most comfortable, and offers best protection
The only tradeoff with hard armour is protection vs ventilation. Personally I'd rather sweat then hurt.
Everything else is school fees!
To the OP:
There are a few really smart replies to your question, and far too many fucking stupid ones.
I don't care what you carry, but if you carry it you better be prepared to use it and have an intimate and practiced knowledge how to use it.
CQC or any self-defence training will tell...
Gerrit - great to hear, thanks for the details.
There's a vast market on the forum - post some more details, I for one would like to support a local business and by the sounds of it your gear is great. I'll be in touch.
