My 09 with just short of 60 000km is starting to make a noise when starting. It sounds like a chain grinding when idling in neutral. There is a grr sound about every 2 seconds coming from the engine (throttle side) . It is only there after the bike was parked overnight / for a few hours and the noise goes away after a few minutes.

One BMW dealer in PTA says I will have to replace the timing chain, tensioner and gaskets / seals etc at R2600 for the parts and another R1800 in labour. :ky:

Another dealer in PTA recons it is only the timing chain tensioner that needs to be adjusted. Total cost - around R100 ZARs.

Has the grease monkeys at the dealers and stealers gone to different spanner schools or is there one here that want to give me 1 from the rear :-\ :amazon:

Has any fellow dogs had this noise before and which of the two above is more likely to be the correct diagnosis?
