Please note that this is not a normal RR as what you are used too, but allow me to share a piece of our history, life and our trip to Cape Town with you.

Long time  ago, a very long time ago, before faxes, computers and cell phones, two youngsters were running around in Cradock, knowing each other, but had no interest in each other.

Then one day, the Alpha male of the van Vuuren clan, saw the 4th Venter daughter at a party downtown in Cradock.  He took her home, and she never left him again.  He had only eyes for her and she couldn’t get rid of himBut – there was a problem.  He had to finish army - that was 1982.

Since then a lot happened.  Got married in 1985 and had 2 kids in years to come.  When they got married, they had a party until late that night and drove off to Cookhouse for their first night as a married couple.  In the bedroom were 2 single beds . . . . . . and from that day, they knew that a single bed is as much comfortable as a double bed.  Did a honeymoon with the sponsorship of Standard Bank and head off to Hartenbos.  Break a rear car window during the time and the Venter daughter had to sit for a day or two on the rear seat holding plastic bags together so that the rain doesn’t enter the car.  Bought a small house and later bought a bigger house and then were transferred to East London.  It was always a jol being married to the Venter girl.

But there were downfalls – in 30 years a lot can happen.  The van Vuuren boy ends up in ICU because of heart attacks and a 4way bypass.  The Venter daughter ended up in hospital with an operation on her back.  For both of them, their lives have changed after those operations.
Being always on the lookout for something ‘else’ to do, the Van Vuuren boy nearly drowned a few times while paddling on the Fish River.  Got tangled with a parachute’s cables once and fell hard, very hard.

Years later when the kids left the house they decided that they have to spend the kid’s inheritance and bought a bike to see the world.  But he couldn’t do it on his own – Ou Bees had to travel with him.

If you can remember this RR –  https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=141708.0 - where went to LJ & Celesste’s wedding last year December.  Since then they moved into their house and told us that they have good jobs and are happy.  We had to go and visit them to see if it all was true.  Ou Bees asked me how long we are staying with the kids – my answer was: “If we get up in the morning and they don’t offer breakfast, then we should go.”  I must be honest – we had a super breakfast every morning.

Now the RR will start….  As said – it is not a RR with Adventurous Routes etc.  It is a trip where we stopped at a padstal, smelled the roses and drank milkshakes and coffee wherever we came.

DAY 1 Saturday – 2014-12-20

OK - so we closed the Friday for 3 weeks but we were tired, very tired.  Luckily we packed the bike Wednesday night so the bike was packed, but for some or other reason we both were very tired.

Mistake # 1: We only left East London after 9 the Saturday morning, heading off to Fort Beaufort where we would go on gravel towards Steytlerville (Royal Hotel) where we booked.

Mistake # 2:  Ou Bees didn't have breakfast so between Fort Beaufort & the farm of Twe Twe she asked me if I'll stop somewhere to eat.  When I told her there is mothering between here and Steytlerville, I realized that I made the 2nd mistake for the day.  At one stage I was thinking of contacting Twe Twe and ask her if we can have a cup of coffee and bread, maar nou ja - I didn't....  Next time    :deal:

Op daai 2de laaste foto was daar moontlik 'n "gestekery"?? :laughing4: :laughing4:

I took the same route as what we did when we went to Twe Twe's farm for the Tiekiedraai breakfast in August as I wanted to show Ou Bees the game on the route.  As we stopped at the gate and waited for the guard to come and complete the forms, Ou Bees spotted a sign that says "Dangerous Animals - Enter on Own Risk" - or something like that.

Our conversation was as follows:

Ou Bees:  Jaco - here are wild animals.....
Me:  You would not see them, and if you see them, it would be springbok.....

By this time the guard stopped and gave me the form to complete.

Ou Bees asking the guard:  Are here wild animals/
Guard:  Yes Mam - Rhinos and they are close to the road not far from here.
Ou Bees:  Jaco - don't you think we must turn around?
Me:  You never ask a guard a thing, because he will answer or confirm what you asked him (OK - not really the exact words, but you do understand  ;)
Me to guard:  Here is the form, open the gate.
Ou Bees:  Jaco - he said......
Me:  Sjuut - sit and enjoy the trip

and off we go.  Halfway through the reserve Ou Bees said to me that the one bag is loose.  I said to her just hold the straps, and I'll fix it later.  As we exit the other side, Ou Bees was sitting with the bag on her lap as it came totally loose.

We never saw any game except for a few antelope running around in a distance.

As we left the reserve, I said to Ou Bees I think we must go to Oom Theuns se winkel that is at the turn-off from the N10 to the R400.  as far as I can remember, the had a shop not so long ago......

Mistake # 3:  No Shop  :-\ :'( :-[

I think that this church hall is still used by the local farmers for a bazaar, meeting, church etc.
