After almost 32,000km on my BMW F800GS I decided to replace the chain and sprockets, with some interesting observations - more about that later.

As the chain and sprockets from BMW are prohibitively expensive I decided to support TracMac in Paarden Island. They gave me good prices on sprockets and a chain. The spares have been lying around for 2 weeks when I decided to get going with the project on Saturday afternoon. I have a trip from Cape Town to Sutherland waiting and want the bike in tip-top condition.

First step was to check for wear. As you can see there was some play on the rear sprocket. I could pull the chain away from the sprocket - see the gap? This, and a clear noise from the drive train/chain indicated that it was time for a change.
