I have done some research on this. Not advisable as it can become very complicated. Everything is fine till its not and then you better have a plan to deal with it.

Due to bad navigation skills my Ducati 1098s did plenty "adventure" riding. The only mod on it was a steel mesh in front of the radiator. Ohlins can really smooth out a corrugated road and the ground clearance is good enough for most places DS bikes go. It's also very light so no slow-mo fall...
