BMW generally has service a cut above all the other manufacturers. Why not consider the new BMW 900 when it becomes available here. It sounds like a fabulous bike based on the reviews.

A little off track but what's the XR400R like compared to the XR600R. I've had lots of XR600R's, XR650L and the older XR200R and XR500R. All lekker but the 400 has always eluded me.

Owned an XT660R. Didn't care much for the bike. Nice motor but that's pretty much where it ended. Rear undersprung, front a little harsh. Bugger-all ground clearance, weird side panels irritated my legs when standing, snatchy throttle response. I loved the Tenere 660 though, completely different...

Gerard, I was reluctant to give advice on oils because I'm no specialist hence my advice to follow what's specified in the manual. I think I used Castrol ActivoX, can't remember clearly but that Motul you specified earlier is what I'd use now if it were my choice.

Nooooo FI, read my post above. I've had two FI scams and I owned this one and this is the best of the scrams I owned, and it will eat the FI's for breakfast performance wise due to the Dynojet kit in the carbs.

You'll get about 270km (about 5.5-5.75 l/100km) on a tank but then it's pretty dry. I owned this bike before OB. It's actually one of the better one's I've owned (I've had about eight 865's). Especially because this one is carby so you can customize the clocks without messing with the engine...
