I'll be taking mine in next week for 30 000km service, plus some extra stuff..... expecting a R15k bill plugs, valves, leaking forks, chain+sprockets.... I'm not flustered, it has to be done, and I've never had any other extraordinary expenses on the bike

No, it's a permanent installation - I've even added a V meter and a low voltage trip circuit, to ensure that I only discharge the battery to not below 11.5V

those inverters aren't very efficient - I've also got a Huawei router and power it from a battery that is trickle charged at 13.6V - have been using it like that for years - measure the DC voltage coming from the router power supply, it is probably >12V

those don't look like shavings, more like pieces that have broken off - I wouldn't be at ease
