Does anyone know what wood this is? I made my last awl with this, but have no idea what it is. I think is was treated with something that gives it a strong tar like smell and it is hard enough not to be dented with thumb nail. Lekker heavy also. I plan on using this to make handles for...

This was me on Wednesday. Looking at a nice, solid piece if braai wood. Thinking it might make a good pen or maybe some more crochet handles, but too short for a wand. Then, this morning, I got this bunch of rosewood trim pieces and the other two, I think, might be teak. I just remember him...

I have been using a similar setup for sharpening (after doing it upside down on my drill press :ninja:). Did not know that it is an "acceptable" method, but obviously, doing it free hand like this requires practice and experience.

I'm sure the new braai will be awesome. If I were closer I would have came to help. Even if I only qualify to switch on the kettle.

I seem to always draw unwanted attention to myself. Like the other day my wife ordered dog food from Takealot, together with other stuff, and had it delivered to the office. I didn't want to carry it from reception to the outside parking (because everyone will see me then), so I caried it two...

What is that one joke about the Roman numerals? The Roman soldier walks into a bar raises two fingers and says to the barman, "give me five beers"

I was actually about to reply that I sometimes have difficulty reading analogue clocks. I put one in the garage to help me spend less time there, but I either ignore it, or get the time wrong when just glancing at it.

Something was not right with this and some of the cracks concerned me. So I sanded it slightly, then put thin superglue that soaked into the cracks and immediately wiped off the excess. I guess the only benifit would be if this thing falls one day. Anyway, after the superglue set, I sanded it...

I know I am probably the last person who realized that you can make/use a jig for drilling holes and that it is not that impressive... but damn! It was awesome when I stuck the round bar through the 7 support plates and it went through without getting stuck even once Yesterday I also put screws...

Hollowed out the rear of this disc with a router (poorly) and the drilled some 2mm holes (some of which were in the wrong place) then put clear cote on. Here is the best photo I have at the moment. Few more steps to go.

Today, Sunday, I planned to take an afternoon nap, but my mind could not go into rest mode and I just did not want to sit around. So back to the garage. Again, doing more than one thing at a time, I managed to glue up the rest of the hardboard thingies and then start on the frame. I only used...

Here is something I also started on Saturday. Not going to say too much, but maybe ypu can get in a close guess. I actually wanted to do a proper CAD design for this, but I grew to hate computers and decided to just wing it based on what I have in the garage. Started with this hardboard...

Then this morning I started to turn a handle from a random piece of braai wood. But it was so nice, that I put it aside for something else. Remember this? I dug the "mouse" out from where I chucked it last time to rather try and make a handle from it. Skip a few photo oportunities and then...

I cleaned the dirty stump. Looks the same as the other, but must be much older. I see some nice bowls being turned from pine, but I need a few other things before I can do that.
