I have a DR and CRF 300 and without hesitation would take the DR : easier to work on/ fix in the field, stronger subframe , better on the open road.
You are welcome to contact me if you want more than my 5c worth.
What business are you in?
been here 14 years now and wouldn`t trade it for anything, but as Kobus said, it is a difficult place to do business. That said, I started from scratch and did ok.
You are welcome to call me if you want to discuss.

My combination of choice on the DR, KTM500 and300L.
With the 300 i leave them at 1.5bar and don`t touch them again...worked through a variety of terrain including Damaraland and Kaokoland...rocks, sand, whatever. No issues.
If you do make one I would be very interested as well.
I can also help design and manufacture custom luggage to fit it EXACTLY.
Please let me know.
Pete.
CRF300 is not the right bike in my opinion.
Subframe not strong enough to handle what you will need to carry.
I have a 300 and a DR 650 . I love the 300, but not the right tool for the job.
DR is perfect.

It looks like I have the use of a RMC250 for my visit.
I am doing a short trip with my girlfriend (she works there) at the end of this month to check out the lie of the land with a view to a more extensive trip later.
Not really wanting to be guided or see any of the classic tourist...
