    Tenere 34L fettling

It's just a spacer that goes between the top of the spring and the fork cap. Adds some preload to the spring as you screw the fork cap onto the fork tube. I would start at about 10mm. you can machine them from ally or teflon. For our plastics you can buy them in different thicknesses and mix and...

    Tenere 34L fettling

My memory of my Tenere was that the forks were VERY soft, particularly with a full tank of gas. If you don't want to put stiffer springs, then more oil to decrease the air gap, and perhaps some preload spacers. I've never been a fan of running air in the forks, to me the valves are there for...

    Sorted Spoke wrench

I have also used similar for many years. Slipped a rubber spark plug lead cap over the unused end, makes it much easier on the palm of your hand when tightening.

    Honda crf230 spring.

I'm surprised that at 82kg's the spring is too hard. Typically those bikes have suspension for 65 - 75 kg riders. Is it the stock spring, or has a previous owner put a stiffer one on? I presume you have tried to lessen the preload? Post some pics of the shock/spring and we can maybe do some...

    2004 WR 250 F build

The amazing thing is that KDX has a red side panel. Not sure if it's from a KDX, but yes, they did come out in red (as an option to the green) for a couple of years. Not many around.

Building a sort-of "replica" of the 1979 Dakar winning XT500.

Would I like one (or both!) in my garage? Without question. Would I drool over them every day? Without question. Would I immediately start changing them? Without question. At a minimum I would remover the fork extenders, to make them safe to ride, and more rideable.

Building a sort-of "replica" of the 1979 Dakar winning XT500.

They are. How else would you catch as much dirt as possible in the now upward facing caps? And while you're at it set the preload as soft as possible to further enhance the Easy Rider front end. Apologies to the person that owns these (OomD is it you?), perhaps my criticisms are unjustified...

Building a sort-of "replica" of the 1979 Dakar winning XT500.

Honestly I don't get it, this just isn't me. I'm far more a function over form type of guy, and this is just mutton dressed up as lamb. Whilst the restoration of the 'original' XT bikes is impressive, the 'add on's' just don't 'add up'. The pretty tanks and fender bags probably cost an arm and a...

    Dakar 2024

Been quite a race this year. Horrible few days in the beginning which sorted the wheat from the chaff, and then some very long stages which kept everyone humble. I think they took it up a notch from previous Saudi versions. Hope Ross has a good day, and is able to cement his podium position. Not...
