I was on leave for the past few weeks so did not follow my own thread for a while... ::). Anyway, the problem was indeed solved by Garmin's update.  It is interesting to note that ALL Navigator Vs seem to have been affected, or at least what I could gather from other forums.  And all the resets...

I hope the 'yet' implies that there is a solution underway... Anyway, the problem is a bit irritating in another way.  The date is now about 9 months off.  While our daylight is now becoming longer, the GPS's is getting shorter.  At some point it will be on dark screen in the early morning sun...

I bought the Navigator V in 2015.  You can hardly call it old.  And the date was fine after April 6, or whatever date was mentioned.  I have logs of October 2019 to prove that.  The problem started on 3 November 2019.  I think there could be another glitch, albeit related to the 1024 week...
