Presume you are talking about attaching the stabiliser post? Why not make a collar to fit around the steering head as done by Emig.

Starting point is the sidestand switch, might be a loose connection in there somewhere, second point of call would be the fuel line under the seat, might be kinked, check if the fuel pump recall was done on your bike, vin no. dependant.
