I don't have time to do the kind of in-depth research I usually do before buying a second-hand bike. I'm on short finals to buying a 990 (probably an R) and would appreciate your guidance/feedback so I can assess the suitability of the bikes I'm interested in:

- What are the major service intervals? When are valve clearances supposed to be checked?
- Is the LC8 very sensitive to oil type and grade? What is the preferred grade and type?
- What are the big ticket items I should be looking for, i.e. are there any inherent weaknesses/reliability issues that I should be check?
- Are there any aftermarket accessories that are a must-have to address any weaknesses of the bike? (steering damper, excel rims etc)
- Are there any recommended 990 specialists/indie mechanics in Cape-Town that would do a good pre-purchase inspection?
