It is due to unforeseen reasons (I had a unexpected heart attack 4 months ago) and the old age catching up on me that I am looking at selling my 2008 orange and blue 990. I always knew this will be my last bike but the heart attack was very unexpected and the moment has now arrived where I have to start looking at selling it. On a recent dirt ride (even if it was about a month after the attack), I dropped it in the sand and had to ask somebody to help me pick it up, not a situation when riding solo.... I have just ridden it to the Bloem Show and the NAMPO show without any problems. Used for seeing client and everyday commuting, she is now at just over 110 000 kms with new front tire fitted before NAMPO show. Full set of aluminum panniers and top box included and a Smith steering damper fitted (one panier has a dent in but not a problem and not leaking).
My question is the following: as with all of these models, the paint is peeling on some of the panels apart from the scratches of hitting the deck on dirt roads. If I have it resprayed the prospect buyer will take it it was in an accident. On the other hand, who will look at it with peeling paint on the panels?
I don't want to stop riding and thus looking for a smaller bike, maybe a KLR or XR.
So how do I sell the bike? Before or after a spray job? There is some TLC needed although regularly serviced, etc. I have started working on the bike month by month when I was attacked. How does one determine a value to a bike like this? I have read that the orange and blue specific is a collectors item but not sure.
How do I go about in maybe swopping it with a difference in value paid out? I'm not lus for shit like this anymore.... sigh.
Thanks.
