A friend of mine has an XTR with over 100k on the clock. Only problem he had was the primary drive nut on the crankshaft came loose which is not unheard of. My XTR is on 42k now and still solid, doesn't use oil or coolant. Those Italian engines are strong..
A steel mesh top with drip/mess tray underneath is not really ideal when parting off small parts as they will vanish into the sea of shavings. A flat smooth tray is about the best option.
Ah thanks, I'm not going to be making any knives, just wanting a light duty belt sander for burr removal and polishing or sharpening but will keep what you said in mind.
