The alternative route through Nairobi seems to be a good option.  Originally we planned to stay as close to Lake Victoria and then enter the park from the Western side once we crossed back into Tanazania, going down south east towards Ngorogoro. Thanks, much appreciated.

Ja that sucks!  I would love to go camping on the rim of the Ngorogoro crater.  I guess a truck will come in handy to load the bikes for that bit.
