Run 13 - 40. You want it nice and responsive :thumleft:
14 - 44 is stock. I run 14 - 47, slightly longer but not much. If you google there are these algorithms that calculate what change you will get by shifting sprockets up and down. Very cool.
Just run 15 - 44. Keep it simple.
On the DRZ E there are two plastic triangles that attach to the under-side of the tank, these then fasten the tank to the bike. I don't suppose anyone has a set of these plastic triangles (and the rubber inserts to go with them) laying about? Don't wanna pay the stealership prices unless I have...
They are awesome for commuting if you aren't on the highway (which I guess is only possible in Slaap Stad). I throw mine around like a 'tard on the tar. (That's a motard, the bike, not a retard, the rider).
Another thing to check: have you recently softened the back suspension? Hardening the back suspension can fix it.
My DRZ (because I run knobblies on the tar) can get quite a wobble around 120km/h, I then ride with one hand on the handlebar, it reduces the wobble. But that's not K53 approved...
Tire pressure (easy)
Sounds like head bearings... to check: Put bike on stand so front end is off the ground, turn steering left and right, if it doesn't turn smooth and easily all the way, that's your problem.
Took it for a burn last night. Bishopscourt to Constantia Nek and back. Gave my cousin on his GSXR 400 a good run through the corners. Very fun. Very silly. Full knobs, riding like a motard.
There are a few vendors who can source tanks - but DR650 parts are scarce in SA (www.renz.co.za may be able to help you out). Doing it yourself either from ebay or justgastanks.com will save you between R400 and R1000, depending on the tank and mark-up and all that.
It has been done.
N[]va did it. Superfoxi in cape town did the (rather excellent) work on the forks.
The SM and S models come out with a lower-spec butterfly carb. The E model came stock with an FCR card. The S is an offroad bike, it is tamer and has lower compression, so probably a more...
