A combination of input material and heat treatments if you don’t do the second one you have a problem, lots of parts machined from solid not forged, it’s cheaper.

I wouldn’t trust my FD with a no name brand. I use Castrol Syntrax or Fuchs. Both 85/140 GL 5. At R399 for 5 litres alarm bell should ring. It only takes about 250ml do you need to?

Those failures are brittle fractures hard as hell because of no heat treatment.

I found some Dry PTFE spray from WD40, works well for locks. (y)

I could have bought one of these back in the late 1970’s, but bought a Montessa out of the same shed. 🙄 Even worse knowing the reprobates I was dealing with, it was well used, it might have been a factory (which was in UK the previous year) ISDT bike that got lost. :rolleyes:
