My African Dream - reporting from Haiti

Hahaha, I'm so glad that they kept safety in mind when they designed those things. I thought maybe they were the new Chinese versions that SAA are fitting to their jets Edit, actually probably Russian purchased by Mantashe because they told him one could fly their planes on coal

Thanks, always wondered and am pleased to hear they are not really flexing that much

My African Dream - reporting from Haiti

Why do airplane props always look so bent in photos? Are they really bending like that owing to resistance and the shutter speed, or is it just a camera anomaly thing?

Looking to Upgrade from an AT 750 to a F800 or GS1200

The only time I would choose the 1200 over the 800 is if was to do long tar trips. For everything else the 800 is way better. It is also much more responsive, so easier to get out of tricky situations. Also when waiting at a robot and one blips the throttle on a 1200, that sideways torque...

    F800 Mainstand Bolts

Also had issues with them and lost one. Stealers wanted a fortune and couldn't source second hand, so ended up having to make one on a lathe. I've had many more issues with my side stand bolt though

    NiCad battery repack, Cape Town?

That's about what you are going to pay. In fact, it is a pretty good price. I had my Makita 14.4V batteries repacked a few years ago in George, and IIRC he charged over R500 each

Where to get some mild steel pipe with 20mm OD and 8MM ID

I agree with the above comment. Also bear in mind that if your aim is to use 8mm bolts then your ID should be 8.5mm

I actually thought that's what it was, but thought I'd take the piss anyway.

    Keeping a compressor pressurised

As everyone else said. No problem to leave pressurized, but very important to drain off water from the bottom of the tank. I do it every evening and again in the morning. As far as I'm concerned, a water trap, while not essential, is a small price to pay for peace of mind. Doesn't have to be...

    Which trickle charger to buy?

IMHO all the chargers mentioned above are fine. I have a C-Tek 3600, Optimate 6, and Hawkins 8 Amp. All have given no problems over the last 15 years or so. Best bang for buck, a 10 or 20W solar panel and a R300 PWM controller from Takealot. Wont charge your battery up overnight though.

My African Dream - reporting from Haiti

Tom nailed it to a T. After many years on oil rigs, it was in my experience, exactly like that. Fortunately, I never married, but saw many a friend go through a divorce for those exact reasons. Without being sexist (my co-workers were all male), the wives liked the money, but were convinced...

I'm sure the picture of your cuppa doesn't do it justice, but my now deceased gran always chirped when we made her weak tea, was "looks like old woman's widdle"

I would say go for it. Looks like a lekker new project and loads of fun once spruced up. The USA is custom made for RV's, wide roads and camping just about everywhere. The big "BUT" is however, how much time do you spend in the states, IOW is it worth it. I had a connection who lived in The...

    Ever run from the Police?

1979 and I nip down from my spot in Gardens, riding my XL350, to make a purchase in Gympie Rd.  I'm riding home with a neatly wrapped R20 parcel stuffed into my jacket.  Can't remember the name of the road, but it comes up from Woodstock and goes under the M3 then winds up to De Waal drive. ...

[LF] BMW G800 GS Luggage Rack dxf / Cad file?

I think yours is a bit shorter, looks that way from the photo's.  Mine is 420mm on the outboard sides and 400mm down the centre line.  Sorry I should post a photo, but a bit of a mission to size and all.  I'll try and get one done soon.  I think the file I sent you might have been a shortened...

[LF] BMW G800 GS Luggage Rack dxf / Cad file?

I would move the whole rack a bit forward.  Mine overlaps the seat about 70mm and doesn't interfere with the passenger at all.  Topbox makes a nice backrest too.  At the rear my plate ends pretty much in line with the number plate light.  The centre of my topbox is pretty much in line with the...

[LF] BMW G800 GS Luggage Rack dxf / Cad file?

Looking great.  About the aluminium, 4mm ali is plenty strong enough, mine has been in use for about 10yrs without any signs of cracking or warping, and I have loaded it with 20+Kgs a few times.  Mine is also not coated at all and apart from a fine oxidation layer, has not deteriated.
