Had the same problem with my jacket.  Take your Leatherman and squeeze the little thingy that opens and closes the zip.  More often than not, it is just that thing which has worn/bent open slightly, then the zip teeth don't get pushed close enough to lock into each other. Hope that makes sense...

That's a Presta valve.  A Schrader valve is like the one you have on your car

As far as I know you have a Dana axle, same as a SFA Hilux.  I made up a puller/press quite easily which made the job a breeze.

Have you tried plastic welding?  I welded mine using a soldering iron and some weed eater cord.. Doesn't look great, but is still holding a year later.

First, a correction.  The 2 batteries I put in were Osaka, not Okapi as previously stated.  Ist one, the bike shop where I bought it, put the acid in for me.  I then installed the battery about an hour later, which I know is not recommended, one should apparently wait for a couple of hours, but...

So, after giving up in disgust I finally trailered the bike to George where Donovan took on the job.  Didn't take him long to let me know that there is nothing wrong with the charging system and probably was never anything wrong with the stator.  Problem was just a bad battery.  Now this makes...

Gasket has arrived at Lynn Schroeder, George.  R269.38, a lot of tom for a piece of paper.  Will be collected by a mate and I'll pick up in knysna when I go to fetch the stator.  Still waiting to hear when that will be ready.

Thanks all, spoke to an armature winder in Knysna yesterday.  He says he's done a few 800GS stators before, so no problem.  Says cost will be between R1200 and R1500 ex VAT.  Taking it in today.  Now just waiting for a reply from Lynn Schroeder re the gasket.
