Jip. Riding position , body size , helmet all play a factor. You choose what works for you. On my KLR i just added a little deflector and it was fine. On my GS i prefer the stock screen.

Yip. I will jump on my 800 now with a stock screen and do 500km. Have done it and will do it again on Thursday.

Same here. Tall screens also turn into a sail in crosswinds and is distracting in technical terrain. I have been chucked over the handle bars in Grabouw and would have broken a tall screen. At 1.85 the wind is in my chest which is acceptable. Not great , but ok.

There is a group of guys from the KLR group that usually does a run from Kalbaskraal to Darling. I have done a trip with them where we got onto a railway service road just outside the durbanville industrial area. I might still have the route somewhere.

Why??? I have never had any issues on 1000km + trips on the stock filter and I have a knack for riding in people's dust. You are looking for a problem that doesn't exist. The stock filter is more than adequate. I have never found a speck of dust in the airbox using the oem recommended filter.
