Speaking for myself who was on a KTM 990, I wouldn't want to do the trip on anything else! The 990 ate up everything I threw at it, it was a handful in the sand in a few places, but these were short distances, 300m here and 150m there, and then again it eats up the long gravel sections better...

I have had my suspension fine tuned by PMC Racing Suspensions, same springs, just revalved and shimmed and it never bottoms out on the jumps. Remember the 990 Adventure S has 265mm front and rear travel.

Hardy, I reckon that the way you did our trip for us was pretty much the winning recipe. Maybe, for me, I would like to take the shortest route straight up north and cut out maybe 2 nights out getting there and spend an extra night or 2 in the north west Kaokoland desert  where you don't see...

Eish! Going to be a lot of bikes to choose from there! Make sure your insurance is up to date!

The 990R is an aminal. :twisted: I have 2 of them, not ready to swap them for anything else. Long as you do regular maintenance ( does'nt sound like the previous owner of yours did so) it will always put a big smile on your dial!
