Little House near the Mairie - My French Farmhouse.

It's been a hellova 4 weeks of cold living. There was hot water for washing and showering, but the heaters were lukewarm at best, so our little fireplace earned its keep! Then I got a horrible bout of COVID, which is still lingering. Wednesday night was a misery. I can't even describe the...

Your story sounds familiar. Moving to a new (old) house is always fraught with challenge. Every thing you open up or cut back reveals the ugly underneath. Every room or structure we have tackled has revealed something unforseen that needs addressing. My brother has a philosophy: Every time you...

I have been interested in the history of Bousseviller, and after scouting around online, I found this book: Written in 1946 by Paul Glath, a former Mayor of Bousseviller. It was reprinted in the 90s. It details the history of the town, and attempts to provide a meaning to the town's name. Most...

Thanks Gary. We#re both improving, albeit slowly. What really stings is the system is newly installed and was awaiting the pellet delivery, which now has been done, only to discover that the vacuum system isn't working properly, so no pellets being delivered to the burner.. GRR!!

That bench is looking SWEET! I have to rebuild my workshop but now is not the time. I have other fish to fry, but soon... I admire your skill and patience. Everything is just right. Well done!

It's been a crappy week here at chez Guitar, my Mrs came down with COVID last week, now me this week. Not nice! Picking up on our story, I enjoyed the company of one of our Aircraft Mechanics, Frank, who took me for Tacos at a Mexican Diner. Real basic but the food was GREAT! The Mexican beer...

Landing in Huntsville in the evening, we took the crew bus to the hotel and hit the sack.. I didn't sleep much that night because I got some good sleep in the bunk on the airplane. Next morning my colleague Frank picked me up in the company maintenance truck to go pick up my rental car. Nice...

Greetings from Huntsville, Alabama. I've been here for a week and will fly back to Luxembourg on Wednesday evening. I boarded our 747 on Wednesday last week on a cool Autumn evening. The airplane was already loaded by the time I got to the airplane. The pushback truck is already connected...

Down on the farm with the Bushlander

Eish.. Sad to see that goat lying there like that. We continue to be harassed by the serpent in the garden. On many fronts both literal and figurative. Seems like that geelslang is a nasty character. Most snakes don't just lash out, they prefer to move out of the way. Are they agressive?

Cool boet, thanks for the offer. It's pretty certain that I'm into Huntsville, because our airplane flies in there almost daily. However, stranger things have happened...

It's been a busy time in Bousseviller this weekend, hence the long pause between updates. Firstly, the Pellet Silo is finished and I have to say it turned out great. We have a sight glass for level inspection and a trap door for maintenance access. Now all we need is pellets, which would be...

We also surprised ourselves how French we have become. Baguettes, Camembert and wine for afternoon tea. We live very close to the Maginot line and some of the bigger entry points who give guided tours. We've done all the big cemeteries, both allied and German. I found German soldiers...

This is becoming increasingly common all over the world and isn't likely to change, which is a travesty. However you have made a choice to preserve firstly your sanity and secondly your own sense of self-respect. I have found myself pushed beyond limits in the last year, had a burnout in...

Amen brother.. We're already looking 9 years in the eye. Our next move is to take French citizenship, as they allow us to keep our SA nationality. Portugal does too, but their process for the Mrs. is so slow. We were actually eligible for French citizenship after only 5 years but we don't yet...

My grandfather on my mother's side was Portuguese. He immigrated to South Africa in the early 1900s. My mother never had a Portuguese nationality until my dad decided it's a good idea to get it. He wasn't wrong. I'm now a dual nationality South African Porra! Anybody can own property in France...
