Hi mj,  First of all.. Your equipment is definitely sufficient. No worries there. RE the questions.. No. Never ever bring Polish close to an item if any further paint is  required. If you use 2k, you can stop right there,  flat with 2000 grit and Polish. You don't need clearcoat over 2k...
