Download Mapswithme. I use it overseas, no data usage and the gps shows you where you are. No need for cell reception.

    Wanted- DRZ carburettor

I had the Mikuni on the S model. This gummed up to the extent that no-one could get it to work. I then got hold of the Keihin FCR 39 and this has now gone the same way. The dealer has stripped the carb totally to try and get to the thin passages. Now however, they can not find a rebuild seal...

    What's wrong with trailwing?

The last time I used trailwings was n 2002, so we may be talking about different tires. But those were like riding on bakelite.

    The BMW X-Challenge Thread

I have a spare that I used to take with on long off-road trips. Just for in case one damages the cluster in a fall. These bikes need the cluster to function. You can have it at half of BM prices, whatever it is?

    Tubliss Pucture Repair

Chances of anything puncturing the inner tube is just about nil. It is encased in a red 'tyre' for lack of a beter word. The inner tube can burst though, it runs very high pressure. A spare is cheap and easy to carry, it is tiny. Tubliss only has one drawback, having to carry a specialist pump...

Michelin desert race vs E09 rear

I have used both on a 640. I preferred the Desert. But I cannot really justify why. They are very close. To me the E09 felt heavier and more sluggish on the rear. I was also under the impression that it was prone to movement sideways in the slippery stuff.

    Standing, sitting, sand, silly arguments

I lock it specifically on steep drops when riding voetpaadjies or cattle tracks. It keeps the back wheel in the track, even when it switches back and forth sharply. Also on very loose shale type downhills, locking the rear adds some usefull drag, especially when you have to release the front...

    Lets be honest with ourselves

I don't really think about about it. My experience is that every single time I have fallen off a bike I was sober. And I have fallen off bikes a million times. Even though I ride drunk often, I have never crashed or even fallen over, the worst was that I got off and forgot to put the...

    Lets be honest with ourselves

I ride drunk quite often. If I go out and know that I am going to be drunk later, I prefer to take the bike rather than the car. I do not expect my mates to stop me. They can be let off the hook if I die while riding  drunk. Feel free to blame me though.

How bad is a KTM 640 adventure?

The bearing problem is only up to the 2003 models, '04 - ’07 is as sorted as late model range bikes get.

How bad is a KTM 640 adventure?

For what you want as specified, it is perfect. And one day when the roses smells bad, the terrain is enduro and you want to get the hell out of there at speed, it will still be perfect. Just stay off the tar.
