If the rest is good it might be easier to find a head or find the right Engeneering shop to redo yours. I would have a needle roller conversion done & bigger valves & better cam + porting etc. Neil Murray used to have Blueprint Engineering & they were very well regarded in the industry, not sure...

Don’t overthink it! Get the engine good & hot, drain all the oil. The longer it you leave it the more you get out, easy to see when it stops dripping a lot. Job done. (Don’t forget to replace the plug or put in the fresh oil! 😂)

Without extreme care they can cause a lot of issues/damage you only discover later and probably at the most awkward time! Many a carwash will refuse to wash under the bonnet.

It’s very unlikely that would work as the 690 is not “conventional” as it has the tank serving as the subframe which supports the seat and everything else mounted aft of the main frame.

Sounds like your rectifier/regulator unit is bad

I’m sorry I can’t give you any specifics as I have no personal experience with that KTM motor, but wear like like that can only happen in the absence of sufficient lubrification. With some of the Hondas the culprit was a small oil restrictor bush/jet that tended to catch debris and starve the cam.

And there definitely has to be an oil feed/supply, problem/design flaw to the top end. Certain older Honda singles had this oil problem too. (I’m not going to elaborate because this is a KTM thread & there are very sensitive Honda lovers present! )
