Try setting the idle mixture screws that should improve things before having to strip carbs to put in a smaller pilot jet

The answer might lie in why you had to change your first battery. As GK said there might be issue/s with the relay/wiring/connections/starter. Any of the batteries, you mention, in top condition, shouldn’t battle to spin your engine properly.
