Shedding 25 + kg on my 1100 GS....!!

1200 doesn't feel any lighter IMHO. Airheads do though, but they are getting expensive now.

Shedding 25 + kg on my 1100 GS....!!

A big GS is a great adventure  tourer. It will be very difficult to make it light enough to challenge a KTM single or similar on gnarly terrain. Unless you're very very good.

    Sandraiders 2023

I think Harry Metcalfe started out doing a bit of property development, but is now a 'gentleman farmer' (See YouTube Harry's Farm). I reckon he made most of his money founding 'Evo' car magazine though. His car collection isn't too shabby either, and he really uses them. He once drove his...

Shedding 25 + kg on my 1100 GS....!!

I suppose you could lose a caliper and disc at the front. Might give you the same stopping distance as an XT500, but that would be another couple of kilos. You could ditch the clocks and light with Unit Garage kit, but it would be $$$ a-plenty I'm sure...

    Travelling light in Caledonia

Well the one thing about midgies is that they are very small, so if there is a bit of a breeze they get blown all over the place so don't bother you. And there are some fabulous spots to camp, especially on the west coast. One bit of advice I forgot to give is avoid the A9 (south of Inverness)...

    Travelling light in Caledonia

Umm, well I would never call the Highlands bleak, but the weather can be a bit unruly sometimes, and you need to plan for that. What you will underestimate is the power of the midgie. Those little fuckers can make camping hell because they come out in the morning and evening just when you...

Where has your bike taken you today?

Just a couple of hours out today to try out a new mounting point for the video camera. Bad light today, even if it was (fairly) warm, but I managed to grab this photo of the Findhorn viaduct. Roads varied from pristine to barely there....

    E5 to E10 petrol

Would have thought they would be Viton tipped, but that just goes to show how important it is to turn your fuel taps off...

    E5 to E10 petrol

At a lot of pumps you can choose between E10 (regular) or E5 (super). Most vehicles built after 1980 should be OK with either, but I tend to stick to the good stuff as all my vehicles are ancient. Biggest problem I had with older carbed bikes was that modern fuel needs a new set of jets cos it...

Guess who I just bumped into ?...............Noraly

Maybe she needs one of those Guglatech filters to help keep the crap out of the tank, but they really slow down the filling process

Guess who I just bumped into ?...............Noraly

Just read a book by a guy who rode a Guzzi LeMans from the UK to South Africa late 70s early 80s. Properly primitive; bike, roads, conflicts, border crossings everything was hard. Egypt (especially), Uganda, Tanz a nightmare, Zim just about to be upended, cops in ZA behaving very badly...

    Stupid mudguard

Useless too - took mine off ages ago cos it cracked and it makes no difference to the crap that ends up over the back of the bike.

Where has your bike taken you today?

Wall to wall sunshine (as always, ahem) so me and Mrs 3D took off over to the west coast of these here Highlands. Quick stop in Torridon for a photo, then on to the Applecross road where we found a wee cove to have our picnic. The pass from Applecross is called Bealach na Ba (Pass of the cows...

Guess who I just bumped into ?...............Noraly

Mrs 3D reckons she gets allergies cos her face, eyes and lips are often quite puffy. We also had a WTF moment with about her eyebrows. Maybe they got rubbed off by her lid like my Arai did to the hair on my head. :ROFLMAO:

I think the currency was Mauritanian, because the guy wanted 15000, but the in the new notes that is 1500 which is what Noraly offered. I think it's about 2 Mauritanian to one ZAR. Not the cheapest river to cross, but what else to do?
