    Neck Brace and Hydropack

Huh, thought I'd set this to notify me of replies. Many thanks for the feedback.

    Old school vs modern cool

I was quite surprised by how I wasn't blown away by the latest 1250 GS compared to my own 1997 1100. I had to rent one for a few days on my last trip as my own bike was delayed, and did a decent run out to the Tankwa padstal from Capetown one day on it. I messed around with the modes once we...

    Only in South Africa, ja!

The one about breaking down on a 'smart' motorway. Bloody terrifying.

    Neck Brace and Hydropack

Been thinking about using a neck brace of some description - maybe feeling a bit my age - but when I'm on a proper ride I use a Kriega hydration pack. Wondering if this would interfere with a Leatt brace? Pic of me with the hydration pack doesn't look like a brace will fit (ignore Mrs 3D's...

    What Bike for Me.......???

Get yourself on a really good long trip and enjoy the 'adventure' riding thing, push yourself! Forget chopping and changing, there are no perfect bikes.

A few from this year's travels around The Highlands (of Scotland) Gruinard Bay on the west coast. Checking out the oil rigs in the Cromarty Firth. Looking down the valley to Loch Broom and Ullapool. Doggy paddling at Ardmair Beach on the North Coast 500 route. A picnic next to the...

Guess who I just bumped into ?...............Noraly

Now that me and Mrs 3D have decided to ride from Chile to the States next year I'm trying to catch up with these videos. Damn, but she pumps 'em out - three a week? No wonder you don't see her partying much (or at all). The ones where she crosses a border are paricularly useful, just hope my...

Buying a bike in Southern Africa as a foreigner (UK residents)

Here you go - decent price, might be of use to you anyway. Obviously this is just a snapshot, the cost may change very quickly, but I guess you know that. This price would be for a shared container so you may have to wait until they've rounded up enough bikes to fill one. This is from maybe...

Buying a bike in Southern Africa as a foreigner (UK residents)

Damn this five minute edit thing is annoying. BTW, if you don't know, there is a campsite just outside Cape Town which will store your bike at very moderate cost. They also do shipping at good prices - I have a quote from them somewhere. I can dig the name and the quote if you like.

Buying a bike in Southern Africa as a foreigner (UK residents)

Can't remember off the top of my head TBH, but we used Adrian Schultz at Econo Trans in Paarden Eiland. Top bloke (we've used him twice now) and very helpful.

Buying a bike in Southern Africa as a foreigner (UK residents)

Things are settling down a bit now. We shipped our bike back from Cape Town earlier this year for about £1300, which was only about 400 quid more than in 2015. Going out it was about £1500 more, but that was in October last year when things were a bit mad still. As ever, it's a simple...

    Alternative to Garmin?

I use a Cliff Top holder for my chunky Blackview rugged phone. Holds very firmly with a RAM arm. Dunno if you can get them in SA. https://www.cliff-top.co/phoneholders

No such thing as too many pictures of Namibia I reckon. Glad you enjoyed them.

SA and Namibia in 2021. What was I thinking?

Yeah, there was some wierd stuff about operating the cranes in certain conditions like if you were on shift and had to stop working you were sent home, even if it was a temporary issue, and problems with the wheels or tyres (no compressors to inflate them?) or some other nonsense. Anyway, it...

SA and Namibia in 2021. What was I thinking?

Glad you liked the RR! There and back twice to Cape Town (by air and ship), New Zealand and back by ship (gone a very long time, but I had another bike at the time), Chile and back by air, so that's four trips in total. I reckon the bike has done more miles without me than with me. Seems...

SA and Namibia in 2021. What was I thinking?

PS... Picked up the bike from Motofreight on Friday, April 1st, about two months late. The bikes got stuck in Cape Town because of something to do with operating cranes in high winds and staffing problems. Not a problem, only loons go riding here in the winter. Early start on the 07.00 to...
