    R1100 G/S Anniversary - Yay or Nay??

Yeah, that was what I was saying. If the neutral light (or rather the switch) has become 'sticky' the bike won't start unless you pull the clutch in. Safety feature. To get at the switch you need to remove the swinging arm which is a bit of a PITA. If you do this, make sure you apply plenty...

    R1100 G/S Anniversary - Yay or Nay??

I think you do need the fast idle, but of course you should be able to get it started without it. Might be easier in warmer places... The most comfortable settings on the shocks are to be found on ones made by Wilbers, Ohlins, Race Tech etc. :D Not much you can do with the o/e front one other...

CRF1100 AT Pillion Footpegs - Wider

I got some very nice wide and grippy pillion pegs for my 1100GS from Flying Brick - they were SA made Motorradical ? Maybe they do them for the AT?

    R1100 G/S Anniversary - Yay or Nay??

Looking at your pics again, maybe you do have the reinforcing plates. Anyway, these are the Touratech ones on my bike: Clutch should be pretty light - it's probably your cable. It's very important to have the slack dialled in correctly on these bikes. Set the adjuster at the top ( IIRC...

    R1100 G/S Anniversary - Yay or Nay??

No, no gearbox reinforcements, and you should get some. Hoses need to be changed ASAP, plenty of tales of them disintegrating inside and some instances of them letting go at the front splitter junction. The later left hand side camchain tensioner is a worthwhile upgrade too - cures nasty...

Where has your bike taken you today?

My bike finaly arrived back in London on March 31st after sitting on the dock of the (Table) Bay for about two months. Thanks to Adrian at Econotrans in Paarden Eiland for his help, he worked hard to sort all the problems. Flew down to get it then had a bloody freezing 1000km or so to cover...

Covid and border crossings between Namibia and SA - Jan 2022

We used Diagnolab in Keets in December - it's just up on the opposite side from the Engen if memory serves.  Looks a bit shonky - like the waiting room of a tyre fitting place - but the results came through within about 4 to 6 hours. Getting through the border back to SA at Vioolsdrif we didn't...

South Africa - we are coming

Yeah, obviously please check the current situation with PCR tests and Namibia, but we had no problems. Not possible to arrange insurance for foreign bikes  in SA and Namibia , Cars esp. 4x4s I believe can be done - try https://www.tuffstuff.co.za/  I made extensive enquiries here and talking to...

South Africa - we are coming

If nothing has changed since December then a PCR test is valid for up to 7 days before entering Namibia, so you could perhaps get them done in Capetown.  We got ours done by Testaro, who were in a shipping container behind Richmond Corner shopping centre in Milnerton.  We found it fairly...

Dullstroom - Bermuda bike triangle ???

I feel vaguely insulted that no one tried to nick my bike when I stayed there a while back.  Bit like having a wife or gf that no one else tries to hit on...

Customs clearing agent in South Africa

Didn't know it was only possible to extend a CDP once - I do know it's expensive because I checked with the people who issued mine.  There must be hundreds of people in this situation around the world - another place to try would be the SA 4x4 forum: https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/ ...

Customs clearing agent in South Africa

Wonder why they wouldn't allow you to extend the Carnet - was it because the bikes were there two years?  Can you still discharge the CDP if it has lapsed? Maybe Horizons Unlimited might have the answer? I will have to speak to the guy who is sending my bike back from SA soon, I will ask him...

Customs clearing agent in South Africa

Dunno about Moz, but if you got the bike through the border into Namibia or out of the airport it must have been on a Carnet or TIP.  As South Africa is in a customs union with Namibia you should be able to cross the border with that - I have never been asked for any documentation and I've...

Mr and Mrs Three Dawg's 2021 Africa Trip

Sorry to just post a link, but it takes you to the small ADVScotland forum that I frequent, and was written with the members there in mind. The plan: The ride:  https://advscotland.com/forum/index.php?thread/2383-south-africa-and-namibia-in-2021-what-was-i-thinking/&pageNo=1

Potgieterspoort south of the Swartberg Pass

I thought it was a lovely run mid December - there was some water around, but nothing that caused me any problems.

Solo Ride to Die Hell, starting the year off right.

Yer clearly a better rider than me   I was there in December and decided the road was too much for me, for a jolly anyway.  Pity, it looks as if I had persevered it improved somewhat.  After I bailed I turned towards Calitzdorp at the bottom of the Swartberg Pass but then took a left...

Namibia in pictures....(motivate ur Namibian trip)

Bike is a good 'un, no doubt.  It'll have its 25th birthday next year, will have to celebrate by putting it on a plane to somewhere interesting.  TBH, I rented a 1250 at the beginning of the trip for a few days as my bike was late - took it up to the Tankwa Padstal and the Cederberg...
