    Short way around the delta

I have done the transit road, but on a 500 and I would strongly recommend to give it a miss on anything bigger (let's face it the bikes you guys will have a road bikes). It is 120 km of deepest sand in Botswana wounding in the bush with big 5 everywhere. The heatstroke is deadly and will most...

    Short way around the delta

If you want to cross to Nam from western Botswana, use Dube border, do not go Gobabis.

KTM 990R screen improvements for taller rider?

Cut it shorter and if you can get rid of the mirrors - get the ones in the handguards like Arrow mirrors (very expensive so maybe search for alternatives). Shorter screen also makes it much much better offroad making it feel much lighter and having no concerns of having you nose or throat cut...

    Short way around the delta

I haven't been there since pandemic, but I seriously doubt that you are not allowed on Makgadikgadi on a bike (obviously outside of the Makgadikgadi / Nxai pan NP - but that is to the west and neither Kukonje, nor Kubu is part of it - they are both dozens of km to the east of the park boundary)...

    KTM 500 Luggage setup

As said on fb, the best solution imo are tge backbone holster luggage systems like altrider hemisphere ir mosko moto rackless and rollie bag on top. Works like bomb on up to 2016 MY models. Newer models have stupidly shorter subframes so aftermarket steel subframe is recommendable. But this is...

    Rwanda: info needed.

Yeah, it was massive ******. I've read somewhere that Kofi Annan (later UN general secretary) was talking quietly with Executive Outcomes to go and sort it out but the virtue signalling pearl clutchers started screaming so it went nowhere. Pretty tragic given that couple hundred of South...

    Rwanda: info needed.

Pete, this is 17 years ago, so things might have changed - but it can give you some ideas about places to visit: https://wilddog.net.za/threads/africa-photoreport-prague-to-cape-town.160735/page-8 P.S. Rwanda section starts lower at that page - the page starts with Congo where I went first.

    Wanted CRF450L

Sorry, there are no hard rides in WC. But I'm happy to meet up in Richtersveld or Lesotho for proper ride. Indeed I plan to be in Richtersveld for a week in August and the riverbeds and rocks there will be able to answer my 450 queries sufficiently.... :devilish::cool:

    Wanted CRF450L

Funnily enough I started looking into CRF450L just before you started this thread and of course looked into both of those options on FB. I have 500 with over 25k km on it (I dare to say tougher km that that American guy in the video who seem to eat way too many km on easy tar and dirt) and it...

Accidental unintentional post, grabbed phone clumsily and somehow it posted gibberish here. Cannot delete unfortunatelly.

    Christmas Safari 2 - 2014 Edition (Bots & Nam)

Sorry, just remembered regarding you season question. We have done Makgadikgadi with @Straatkat in rain season and it was 'fun' as they were under water. We've made it through but you better have real good tyres - especially front. I have failed on that trip to circumnavigate the delta - had to...

    Christmas Safari 2 - 2014 Edition (Bots & Nam)

Here is another trip up there to give you some idea on routes. Though none of my reports really covers the best stuff, which I did on 500. https://wilddog.net.za/threads/christmas-safari.151222/

I forgot to ask when i met you - did you guys cross that rickety bridge south of Zavora? The one in attached photo hoto

    Christmas Safari 2 - 2014 Edition (Bots & Nam)

If your schedule allows that, go in colder months. But the nights can be quite cold, and depending on rain season (not sure when that is) the delta can be tricky.

    Christmas Safari 2 - 2014 Edition (Bots & Nam)

Pleasure John. You should really do that Delta circumnavigation (going north of delta from Shakawe to Khwai river - you will really enjoy that! I can send you the tracks if I haven't already.

    Christmas Safari 2 - 2014 Edition (Bots & Nam)

I'm very agnostic when it comes to season (except for winter in Lesotho). I ride whenever works allows and been in Bots probably in every season. It will be brutally hot in summer of course, but I've done some of my toughest trips there in summer so if you come ready (light bike, reasonably fit)...
