    990s clutch replacement issues

Thanks all, im sorted. It was the ***** on top of the spanner. Kelly and Kamanya got it right - i had the first and last plates the other way around. They are both different from the other plates, but also different from each other as one has bigger internal diameter and that one needs to go...

    990s clutch replacement issues

Thanks Cracker. I have tried all of those thing, but no luck. And no notches on clutch basket. The only thing i can think off is to soak the plates in oil again. They were soaked before i left home and packed them in, and i do not have oil now in kalahari. That, or the plates are wrong size...

    990s clutch replacement issues

My clutch started slipping. I swapped new one in, plate order is correct, the washer at the bottom is in right direction top friction plate is offset per manual. The clutch wouldnt disengage when lever is pulled in, even though i can see that the pressure plate lifts when i pull lever. Any...

TVB, Chris & Juda Planning a ride in Western Cape: Suggestion please

No, there is not much sand in Riemvasmaak, as long as you stay on the road I have plotted in that map. It is mostly hardpack with rocks but nothing hectic, the main dirt road to Kakamas is dirt highway. How you are going to get to Oasis - you are going to skip Wupertahl? Wupertahl side is best...

TVB, Chris & Juda Planning a ride in Western Cape: Suggestion please

So why doesn't he fly down to CT after Christmas to explore it properly without the hassle of massive boring commute?  Instead you can do now 7 day trip that is actually going to be enjoyable and easily doable from Brits and back in 7 days. If he wants to see Sani and cannot now, why not ride...

TVB, Chris & Juda Planning a ride in Western Cape: Suggestion please

Another option from Loriensfontein is to skip Kakamas and Augrabies (and Rievmasmaak) and instead head for Verneukpan if that is your thing (never been there, seems overhyped, but you can consider it if it interests you), sleep there (or if finished early then push onto Upington or even further...

TVB, Chris & Juda Planning a ride in Western Cape: Suggestion please

I'm sorry Tom, but to me that route doesn't make any sense. Why are you wasting time going to Augrabies on the way there, when you can easily do it on the way back as you are returning the same way? Seven days is of course absolutely unsufficient, but if that is what you have and if you have...

Carefull there Bruce! At least two of them are already spoken for by Justin and he might not look at your attempts there kindly!  He is a vindictive  fella and left pissed off cobra waiting for me after we met these ladies just to get me as potential rival out of the way - and I didn't as much...

Virgin Sand In Kaokoland (a post lockdown adventure)

This is very usefull - at least for me. So we can conclude based on the real world experience that: - tubes with Slime in it can be actually patched (I still wouldn't use Slime, but now its just personal preference). - rubber cemment and vulcanizng glue are the same thing (not 100% conclusive...

Virgin Sand In Kaokoland (a post lockdown adventure)

I guess the situation is further complicated by the fact that most tubes today are probably mix of natural an butyl rubber and it is impossible to find out at what ratio. I guess that is what you were alluding to Bruce when you said Michelin has higher natural rubber content and that cheap...

Virgin Sand In Kaokoland (a post lockdown adventure)

I stand corrected then. In the interest of research, I would still like to understand more details though - do you by any chance remember what tube it was you guys patched? I still would stay clear off Slime or any similar product, unless as a last desperate resort - e.g. I run out of patches...

Virgin Sand In Kaokoland (a post lockdown adventure)

Yoh - I hope that Slime didn't bite you in the butt. Excuse my frankness Bruce, but as far as I can see that was very wrong decision. Slime makes tube unpatchable - not sure what it is but the chemicals would prevent the patches to stick. So what you have in effect done is you turned two...

Good to see a proper old school report again in this age of one post wonders  :thumleft: Takes one 15 years back when adv riding was not yet overrun by consumerism and corporate messaging, but fresh, exciting and ambitious... Good job  :thumleft:

Boy, I'm glad Amsterdam took you under his wing. Day 1 and you are already completely lost. You will reach Ongongo -  where you believe you started on Day 1 - by the look of things only on day 3.  8) :pot: Ongongo, in local dialect called Warmquelle is where the warm spring is and where I...

    Rat racer's weekend getaways

I have GL Mojavi permanently on the bike (unless I'm taking the other bike - then it moves there) with all the tools spare tubes and crap. That stays on the bike even for day ride as obviously one needs to be able to fix stuff even on day ride. If I go for weekend overnighter I just use 30...
