FUN TIME ON TWO CRF 250's

Om elke dag te ry - lekker! Ek's sommer jaloers. Julle lyk reg vir Namibie! Ek's so jammer julle's nie in ons groepie nie.  :( Ek geniet ook die kleiner fietsie terdee. Ek vind ek van soveel vinniger en gemakliker die rowwer paaie ry. Dis 'n regte lekker 'hooligan bike'. 'n Mens kan dit sien...

DAY 6 (26 Dec): Sedgefield to Cape Town (538 km) Stats Total time: 8h47 (61 km/h) Moving time: 7h11 (75 km/h) Resting time: 1h36 Maximum speed: 122 km/h We needed to be back in Cape Town today, because Lance’s family was leaving for an overseas holiday and the family dog couldn’t be home...

DAY 4 continued Lance had a plan. “Let’s go up this hill.” “This one? You’re nuts!” “Ok, fine.” It gets even steeper in front. My rear wheel kicked up puffs of dust as I kept momentum up. If you stopped here, it will be difficult to get going again. Puffs of stones: The top! This...

DAY 4 (24 Dec): Explore! (141 km) Lance was “off the lead” today. It wasn’t long before he spotted the first track he wanted to explore. The 800GSA is a heavy bike to turn around, which is why our modus operandi for this small track and all subsequent others was to send me in first. Go...

DAY 3 (23 Dec): Hike and canoeing (0 km) We took a break from biking today, so my apologies if the photos do not appeal to the 2-wheel addicts. Tomorrow will have plenty to make up for it. My sister was also visiting, so she, Lance and I all piled into her car and headed to Eden Adventures in...

DAY 2 (22 Dec): Herbertsdale to Sedgefield (234 km) Stats Total time: 7h14 (32 km/h) Moving time: 6h34 (36 km/h) Resting time: 0h40 (eish!) Maximum speed: 108 km/h So many loops… Morning at Dwarsrivier: I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The setting is beautiful, Martin and...

    Sedgefield forest explorer

This trip is a “gates trip”, because – in essence – we were trying to answer that one burning question: “Is there really a locked gate?” Our tracks therefore consisted of many double-backs, tortuous twists and rerouting. As the map apps like to say: Recalculating!! And then there are the...

Parklands Bush Rides (was once quarry riding) - awesome playpen - be careful of crime and oncoming traffic

Oh my word Squirrle!  :o I hope you feel better soon. It seems we need a water tanker to accompany the rides. Or we can ask Crossed-up to place some water geocaches.

    CRF250 Rally/DS

Same response as LoopSoosStroop: 120km/h indicated, which is actually closer to 110km/h (I've checked vs. a Garmin). I've also tried the 130-135km/h indicated, but I felt sorry for the bike. You can (and I did) hit the rev limiter doing those speeds while going down a hill. Going at highway...

    CRF250 Rally/DS

I'm still very much in love with my bike. I use it for my daily commute (40km one-way), as well as to explore trails I would have struggled with on my previous bike (F650GS). It's a go-anywhere little bike, be it pavement-hopping or single-track riding.

Parklands Bush Rides (was once quarry riding) - awesome playpen - be careful of crime and oncoming traffic

Thanks for a great day out Crossed-up! I checked and it was exactly 3 weeks since my previous ride. Obviously long enough without a ride to forget which way is on/off on my choke! Thanks to William for helping me out a self-inflicted sand hole. Respect to Jean for riding the 250L with those...

Parklands Bush Rides (was once quarry riding) - awesome playpen - be careful of crime and oncoming traffic

Lance can't make it, but I'll be there. Anyway, I'm the one that needs the GPS education!

Parklands Bush Rides (was once quarry riding) - awesome playpen - be careful of crime and oncoming traffic

I'll be interested in a GPS course (in my mind's eye I can hear Lance laughing). It would be great if Ilse and I could go on a gravel ride by ourselves without getting lost. SquirrelHunter: How soon is soon? This weekend I'll be at Cederberg Oasis, but next weekend I plan to be back on a...

    Riding experience and riding abilities

The voting choices are a bit odd. I could basically just choose "ridden road and dirt". I have done beginner (multiple times) and intermediate off-road training, but no advanced courses (ditch jumping looks scary). I've done funduros, but have not raced enduros. Some have tried to get me into...

Parklands Bush Rides (was once quarry riding) - awesome playpen - be careful of crime and oncoming traffic

I know! So much for New Years resolutions. I'm hoping that I won't remain injured for long stretches this year. My work is not impressed. Today I've at least hit on some pain pills that work (I'm allergic to anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen). Last night was unfun. My but bruise looks fun...

Parklands Bush Rides (was once quarry riding) - awesome playpen - be careful of crime and oncoming traffic

And thanks, as always, to our leader! I really enjoy the Sunday rides. Live to ride! I had two "lack of talent" moments. The first one was a minor spill, but ended with me pinned beneath the bike and retoasting my right leg on the exhaust, at the same spot I toasted less than a month ago. It...

If you are in the Cederberg soon !

Exactly. We stayed in Heuningvlei and bought firewood (for ambience) as well as a massive, awesome home-cooked meal for four (it could feed 10!) from the locals. Bikers need a bit more than one lightly grilled peanut. I won't say that there wasn't any exploration done by bike...

Another victim of the battery overflow pipe

I found an interesting quote here: https://www.f650gs.crossroadz.com.au/VRegulator.html It seems to tally with the experience I had with my old 650. Though a mechanic did check the charging system and told me everything was ok. The 650 killed many batteries while I had it. Motobatt sealed...
