Why A LIGHTWEIGHT ADVENTURE BIKE Will Never Be Built

There’s no mystery, it won’t be built by the major manufacturers because there is no market. If this bike was what everyone wanted, KTM would not have sold a single bike beyond the 690. Market research and buyer behaviour indicates that more power and more features sells more bikes than light...

Given I have both bobber and cafe racer tail pieces I need to be able to swop between them without too much effort. To facilitate this I collected a couple of 6 pin deutsch plugs from Auto Magneto yesterday. Once in place I’ll be able to swop in minutes. However, before I spend more time on the...

Next on the agenda will be sorting out the wiring for the tail pieces. Why would you solder wiring for a removable tailpiece and if you do, why do it like this?

While I don’t have much time during the week, I did replace a few bolts this morning. Looks much better without the rust!

Collected the newly blasted and coated subframe from Boetie @sandrot yesterday. Great service as expected. Ready for fitment once I sort the wiring for the two tailpieces.

I started cleaning the exhaust headers during the week but really committed to it over the past two days. It’s ready to go back on the bike. I’ve never used fibreglass wrap before and learnt a lot after redoing it about 5 times. My forearms are on fire but I’m satisfied with what I achieved this...

Worked on the exhaust today. Cleaned with steel brush, then scouring pads followed by 600/800/1200 grit wet sanding and managed to make one pass with metal polish when loadshedding arrived. For a moment I though I killed my 30 year old heavy duty drill 😉 I’m really happy with the progress.

The next order of business was to remove the tank and agree the details of the paintwork with Freek at Final Drive. I dropped the tank earlier this week and continued the process of tripping and cleaning. It’s not a new bike so I’m replacing a few bolts showing corrosion. I also dropped a...
