Trust your instinct, that's correct. Here's what you do: Put the bike on a stand, loosen the rear wheel's axle, chain-adjusters also, and move the rear wheel as far forward as it can go. Now check - guesstimate - how many extra teeth on the rear sprocket your chain will take .... just 'fold'...
