Life in America - We made the move.

I spent most of the day in the office today. But when I got home I dragged Jnr away, kicking and screaming, from his video gaming and we did some more work on the garden shed project. We screwed in 6 ground anchors, they are 2 feet long and are moerofa strong at resisting pulling out. Then I...

Life in America - We made the move.

Another day of hard labor. We assembled the entire base structure for the floor. Lots of measuring and cutting on the miter saw. Lots of swearing while trying to get all of the bits to fit just right. But getting to use the new air-nailer was fun. It's damn powerful. It shoots a 75mm nail...

Oh, and the white pipe you see running along the ground in the first pic, that is just a temporary drain pipe for the washbasin at the side of the workshop. I will be adding a more permanent pipe there before the shed is completed so that the water drains away completely. Until I added that pipe...

Life in America - We made the move.

It's a couple of days later, Wednesday evening to be precise. After the demolition of the old shed was complete, we cleaned up where the old shed had been. Just a bit, just the bits of plastic bags, and other random shit that the rats had used to build their nests. Then We laid out where the...

So today the laaitie and I got to work on the demolition of the old garden shed. I completely forgot to take a before pic, but I KNOW there are several pics of it here somewhere. Anyways, it was quite a mission. I used a battery powered angle grinder to cut the steel sheets from the framework...

Life in America - We made the move.

I'm finally back from 3 days in Ocala where I was at the Managers Meeting. Here are some pics of the workbench surface finally in position with the oak edging having had a dose of Teak Oil. In some places I did have the odd "oopsie" with the router and took off a smidgen of the...

Life in America - We made the move.

I didn't get quite as far as I would have liked today, but at least there is good progression. All of the oak strips have been attached, but they did take a lot more "finessing" to get them to fit as closely as possible. There are some "oopsies", but they can all be filled with a mix of wood...

Yes, thanks Welsh. I liked the light-coloured oak for the same reasons. Too many yootoobers are using black Formica, but to me that just darkens the shop and little screws etc. disappear.

Life in America - We made the move.

It was at this moment that I remembered that I had a lathe in a box in the garage!!! So I pulled out the little lathe, got it all set up, and chucked up the router bit without the bearing. Then I very carefully cut back the little shoulder so that the bearing could get about 3mm closer to the...

Life in America - We made the move.

Another great day spent mostly in my workshop  I did have to run off this morning on a few errands first, but I was home just after 10am. I started off by doing the final cleanup and sanding of the cut-out for the router plate. Then I took a break from the workshop and did the mowing...

Life in America - We made the move.

The router plate insert arrived yesterday. This evening after work I just couldn't help myself. I got Mrs. Zog to help me to place the benchtop back up on the frame. Then I marked out where I wanted the router to be. I used the jigsaw to partially cut through the inner cutout, then I...

I have a very cheapo weather station. It was around $20 at Home Depot. It doesn't give anywhere near as much info as your fancy system though. It basically just tells me temp and humidity and air pressure. Inside and outside. I like your system more
