    Wheel bearing clearance

The lip seal seals the collar. There is a gap between the lip seal and the bearing. They are independent. The bearings have their own covers

    Wheel bearing clearance

The lipseal does not do anything except keep occasional splashing water out to a degree unless its a Yamaha with open bearings, then its crucial. Bearings fail mistly because of too little preload or from rusting. That could be from a damaged lip seal, but its mainly from power washing

    Some Stanley planes

I’m not going to say its got no value, because it sure does, but I’d say it has very little monetary value. I’ve recently paid R220 for the no3 and the unused 4.5 was R100. I think we are the last generation that will buy books and tools.

    Tyres and Tools

I once ran out of rear tyre around 100km short of Upington on a similar trip on the way back. I would courier a rear to Springbok to a guest house or something similar to have a back-up.
