    Vstrom 250SX opinions

Mine is an Oct 23 model and so far I've never paid more than 1800 for a service. However, my warranty was only for 12 months. The newer bikes have a 2 year warranty but it does not apply to bikes sold before the new warranty came into effect. My advice is to ignore the warranty and service...

    PLS advise....Bloem-Gariep-Lady Grey area

    Vstrom 250SX opinions

Don't know if the baby Vstrom is the ideal farm bike? Would rather look to Honda XR190L. But nevertheless, the Suzy is still a solid bike and will probably do the job. I've taken mine in places it should not have been able to, but it did it anyway. And on breakfast runs and as a runabout I often...

    Around The World bike choice?

I ride a lot on my own and I use a 250 VStrom or CRF250 because they're so light. The Suzuki can go past 550km on dirt on 12 litres. It is big enough for all the luggage. The Honda is for tougher situations. But I think a CB500 would be nice if you're doing more paved. Just a bit heavy for...

    Namibia advice

Yes, Soussusvlei/Sesriem and the roads leading there is a must. Try do the gravel between Walvis and Windhoek. Also Spitzkoppe. The road from Swakop north is a salt road and rides like any paved road. No fun. Rather take an inland road up north from Spitzkoppe. Very nice and scenic road is on...

Carnet de passage - who has experience?

Talk to the AA. They have the details and cost. For our trip it was the way to go, but we included Uganda and Kenia. Just make sure your CNP/TIP does not expire before you return. CNP might be valid for 12 months but TIP only 3 months if I remember correctly.

Carnet de passage - who has experience?

We travelled up to Uganda last year using a carnet. You have a choice: you can buy one for 10 or 24 border crossjngs. It was something like R4500 or R6500 non refundable depending on which you decide on. The refundable deposit is 10% of the vehicle's value. We worked out what it would cost if we...

    Softie?

Or the CRF300L or Rally. Or the 250 VStrom which is only 60 grand. I replaced 2 plastic covers on the Suzi with decals for about R1200. It weighs around 165kg. And gives at least 40 km/l off–road. Nice toy. I recently solo–toured about 5000km including the Baviaans without hassles and camped...

Please assist with purchase of first bike (190L vs CRF300L)

Jammer. Brainfreeze daar! Dis 'n 250. Miskien wens ek dit was 'n 300?

Please assist with purchase of first bike (190L vs CRF300L)

Jy't nie veel aftermarket stuff nodig nie.

    Kampplek/Karavaanpark in Harrismith Omgewing?

Also check out a place called Mt Everest 20km before Harrismith on a dirt road? Stayed over there many moons ago. Not sure about camping though.

    BAVIAANS CURRENT CONDITION REPORTS

I passed through there 2 weeks ago and there was lots of water. Had to Walk my bike through Smitskraal. Can be done but take care. Had I dropped the bike it would have disappeared. And if they had more rain... I was also confronted by a buffalo at one of the watercrossings. Was a really exiting...

    Braai wood transport on bike?

I simply take a half a small bag of charcoal. And no side dish! Meat only. The charcoal weighs nothing.

    Vstrom 250SX opinions

Mine is only 450, but all on dirt. Doubt if I would have done any more on a big bike. Thing with dirt roads is - you can do 150 but you can just as easily come second. Conditions change at the drop of a hat and at speed there is simply less time to react. Therefore I seldom do more than 90. And...

    Vstrom 250SX opinions

Some Pics. I agree with the mag rims - this is my second smiley and it cost me a pretty penny @R10/km for the rescue service. I should at least have installed heavy duty tubes to start with.

    Vstrom 250SX opinions

I took my 250 VStrom for a 5,000km-on-dirt, 3 week solo spin recently. (I rode from Pretoria to Knysna and back on dirt.) Mostly goodish roads but some challenging stuff along the way like the Baviaans. One of the passes was a bit of a challenge but one water crossing was a downright nightmare...

Simplest, most Reliable Phone Map App Thing??

What I found was that OSMAnd does not do a great job of finding a route, therefore I plan my routes and then load them. I'll have a look at the other apps that maybe do a better job. But OSMAnd is great at following a gpx route.

Simplest, most Reliable Phone Map App Thing??

When sitting up/editing a profile, go to Navigation Settings and then select Route Parameters. There you'll find the Prefer option.

Simplest, most Reliable Phone Map App Thing??

OSMand. I'm on a 5,000k ride and OSM has not let me down. It even has a 'prefer dirt road' setting. And it import gpx files and then navigates them. You can set up different profiles for your car, 4x4 and off-road bike. It is all I need and it's free. I use nothing else. I plan my routes...

    Vstrom 250SX opinions

I ride one of these and more often than not on dirt. When I want to do trails & stuff I use the CRF 250. Thile Suzuki however is my goto bike for everyday use and even does single tracks with ease. I'm leaving for Knysna this weekend. The whole trip will be 5500 km on dirt, mainly proper roads...
