Minimalist toolkit for a car or bakkie?

On long trips I also carry too much and want to minimalise the tools. I use the 1/4" set a lot when working on the car and other stuff. When you get a bit lower down to the wheels and towbar then the bigger sockets such as the 24mm is needed. Then a few screwdrivers and pliers are needed. A 5m...

Have you seen videos of both falls? How do you know the impact was the same?

Yamaha RD350, on the N1 from Cape Town to Bellville, trying to achieve top speed, in shorts and a t-shirt and hit a wobble and went down. Really dumb but very lucky. He did not slide but rolled and came away with roasties on elbows, hips, knees. Bike also looked good. Landed on one side and...

. Not the same impact. Same rider and same speed one rider will fall on his elbow, another on his hand, one will impact his hand and then roll, another will slide and grind the glove. All different.

Another friend long time ago came off at over 200kph without jacket and pants and minimal damage to gloves. Just lucky in his case. Speed also does not mean much.

Yes, not all impacts are the same and you can't judge the protection of a glove from the impact in a fall. It is subjective.

Nope, friend had a fall with his 990 and mx gloves with no damage to the gloves. Johan has torn his GS gloves in a fall. Is the MX glove thus better? Nope. The data means nothing.

Also have these two different Dromex gloves. Not suitable for biking. The latter can actually be used but is a bit thick and stiff.

What they look like after a fall means nothing. Many have fallen without any damage to gloves. I agree a direct comparison test like a belt sander test will be better. PS We use the word mechanic gloves but they are not all are mechanic gloves and not all mechanic gloves are the same. I have...

Yes, I have all three. Tork Craft, Kendos and GS Also have some MX gloves.

Yip, those MX gloves are really thin. IMHO if the leather from GS gloves wear through on handle bars quicker than a comparable glove then it will do the same on tar. I would put the protection of the Tork Craft on par or maybe just above that of MX gloves and below GS gloves (older version)...

I think people put a false sense in quality when they pay more for a product. Have had the Kendo gloves for a bit longer than I had the GS gloves. They work harder on the bike with the type of riding I do. But I don't know and can't compare the hours each have done. What I do know is that...

One thing that has not increased drastically over the covid period. I have gone with Kendo Gloves from @ClimbingTurtle for R345 A lot cheaper and I think they will outlast the GS gloves. https://wilddog.net.za/threads/riding-gloves-for-christmas-you-know-you-want-to.280563/

Hi S, Can you still get the gloves in the bottom of your image above? They have outlasted the Tork Craft gloves by far.

The not-so-handy handyman and other randomness

Something I learned recently, bought one of these popcorn makers. It is just a plain 'bucket' with a lid. You can use anything non metal which is microwave safe with a lid to keep the popping inside. You don't need anything special to heat the kernels. Any glass container will work.

Simplest, most Reliable Phone Map App Thing??

Mainly use the routing to compare routes to see which is faster. Can OSM do that? Did a quick route but only found one option. I see it has traffic function

Downloaded it again. The way it display the map is nice. Many custom options. Although with all the options getting to the setting you want to change can be a mission.
