    To the Lungs of the Earth

    Thanks for that, really a unique ride on this forum. Proper Wild Dogs you are. You are 10x smarter than most to strike out on those small bikes instead of the Beluga class cruisers most overland travelers take and 100x gutsier than most for hitting Angola and the untouchable points North. Really...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    Gaaah! It’s been ages since I’ve been out on the bike. Work, family and flaky friends bailing out on rides last minute… on the upside though, we’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of three new XR650Rs which finally arrived. One belongs to a new guy who test-rode one a few weeks back and didn’t...

    Totally... and this time a massive hangover to wallow in the following day!

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    A couple of guys I know were skiving off work on Tuesday to ride up Mt. Suswa via some tracks I shared in the valley. I was busy with work and kids duties so couldn’t join for the ride, but about mid-day I started to think maybe I could rip up there solo and join them around the campfire. Once...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    Ha! Glad I managed to hurdle the fantastically low bar of "completely grammatical sentences"! Anyway, I appreciate the comment. I started doing these things in Dar 11 years ago and have found that I absolutely love/hate doing them. They are primarily for me and the guys who did the ride with me...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    Well you know, I've just purchased another BRP from a nice chap in CT. It should be here in a week or two. I'll set it up to be a sort of crossbred thing... going to sell my XL and my XT which I used to use in town and use BRP2 for my commuting bike, but with a mind to making it another dirt...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    Dawn and a cool breeze rustle the acacia leaves to the sounds of doves and hornbills, bla bla bla… durn kids! Shaaaddaaap! Above: Another rare form of monkey spotted near camp. She’s adorable, but very cheeky. Don’t approach with pancakes if you wanna live! Up. Breakfasted (pancakes, coffee...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    Following day we were all up with the sun, the birds and the kids… none of which really get the concept of sleeping in I’ve noticed. I felt like a million bucks having slept on my 4” foam mattress in a castle of a tent, and was very happy to wait for a more responsible adult to begin making...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    A lad I’ve known for seven years, a smart, kind and helpful kid was about to turn 18 and his dad says to me, he says: “All he wants to do for his birthday is ride his bike like a hooligan. Why don't you take him out and we’ll meet you guys down in Ngurumani with the 4x4s and families and food...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    Wisely, I popped an ibuprofen or two as I was hitting the sack and consequently slept like Death’s grand-daddy. Not until the first crack of dawn did I reopen my peepers. First thing I did was check to see if any elephants had squashed Jimbob in his sleep as he had so ardently sworn would be the...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    Next day up with the dawn. Jimbob wasn’t eaten by hyenas much to his relief and our chagrin so we all slowly emerged from our tents to make various hot caffeinated drinks, and later, trips to the loo. The tents were put away by the time the sun got too high and we bid the rest of the campers...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    A whole two weeks dragged by before we could braaaaap again. Two weeks! This time it was going to be a proper gaggle of bikers, with 3 XRRs representing and three others to make it a proper mess of an adventure. Panic was sending out photos of his packed bike 5 days in advance and the WhatsApp...

    2018 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya

    A few behind? A few years you mean! There's a 2019 one (in Roll of Honor), a 2020 one, and I've begun 2021 as well! Many beers can be consumed if you choose to wade through them all! Cheers

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    There's the grumpy bastard I know! First of all, you can be 100% sure the Masai didn't come up with those contraptions on their own. I'm guessing the church group that works there did. And second of all, soon the whole volcano will be destroyed as the geothermal potential has already attracted...

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    The volcano is riddled with steaming Geothermal vents, so they collect the steam from the vents and condense it with those pipes. It's apparently enough water for the people, sheep and goats, but not the cattle, so they have to walk down the mountain when reservoirs dry up.

    2021 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya - Season 6

    2020 is officially over! Scream it from the rooftops, bitches! Ok, nobody really expects 2021 to be too much different, but even still it’s nice to turn the corner, make a change, have a colon cleanse from a whole year of really shitty stuff. And good things are already happening up here. We've...

    * XR650R * WANTED - no longer, I'm good.

    Thanks, intothewild I'm in the 50-60k range because I have to tack on another 40k or more to get it to me and registered. I've seen one or two on Gumtree that look okay and are in the right price point. Just wanted to ask here in case there was a hidden cache of Wild Dogs flogging XRRs...

    * XR650R * WANTED - no longer, I'm good.

    As title says, I'm in the market for another BRP. Yes, I live in Kenya, but guys have sussed how to import bikes and want to sell my XT500 and XL600R and replace them with a good XRR. Might even SUMO it in time, but for now, just having another one to share the garage is the plan. Location...

    2020 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya

    Well, that's 2020 done and dusted. I always make a calendar for the Pig riders here to inspire us with pics for the year ahead. This year, I got behind, so I decided to start the calendar in February 2021 and end it in January 2022. See you next year folks! :snorting:

    2020 - Big Red Pigs in Kenya

    Another week, another Longonot ride and hike. This time, I was feeling relatively fit and set off at a nice pace up the flank of the crater. At the crater’s rim a guy that was still putting on his shoes in the parking lot when I left passed me at a breathless jog. Insulting as that was for my...
