Where you do want/need OEM, I got fantastic service from Cedar Isle Motorrad, even when they had to bring in stuff from Germany (takes a few days/weeks).

Tape them shut from the outside with duct tape. When you release them inside, you can use the tape to lift them too. Don’t rely on it forever 🤷🏽‍♂️

The one pic with the wheel caps removed looked like black centre caps might be a good look, Grizz. But then with the repainted wheels on, they look fantastic! 🥳 Eish that rust underneath though. But I have no doubt you’ll deal with it very successfully.

Grizz, advice given me by the tech when I replaced my radio a little while ago: get adaptors if at all possible, don’t try to cut & join wires inside the dash. Then, it was pretty much blue to blue, black to black, red to red, etc. with an older car it might be more complex but I’m excited for...

Spoke to a gentleman yesterday who bought an F650 with really just cosmetic damage and he’s spent R40k doing it up (albeit with upgrades) so keep that in mind. Reasonable price for a “standard” good condition Dakar is probably R30-40k.

Whatever price you pay, go ahead & overhaul. Chain yes Sprockets probably are ok All rubber - tyres, seals, gaskets, pipes/tubes, etc Replace the pump if/when it dies If you end up less than 40k all in, you won’t regret it. But make sure you’re buying to ride and enjoy, not to make money.
