Attach the watch to your washing machine to wind it.  Or something that shakes a bit less. Oiling a watch.  Firstly you need exceedingly good oil.  Watch & clock oil was designed to last 5 years between cleanings (you were supposed to have mechanical watches & clocks serviced every 5 years). ...

    Are people stealing sand now??

It is an international problem.  Here is a good article about it https://www.theguardian.com/global/2018/jul/01/riddle-of-the-sands-the-truth-behind-stolen-beaches-and-dredged-islands There is also a short Wiki entry about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_theft It mentions the same...

    Memory foam vendors?

I made a wider single seat for my Dakar years ago.  I wanted to use Tempur foam.  I had to import a wheel chair seat from the USA.  I could not find it locally then.  But since then Tempur mattresses have become available locally - not available when I made my seat. I have a write up about that...

So get a plastic bottle of petrol connected directly to 16.  Position it alongside the tank so the fuel level is similar.  have a hole so air can get into the bottle.  If all runs well then problem is on supply side.  If same happens problem is in carb. On the electrics.  Bring in a wire...

I am amazed you were able to cut a spring with a hacksaw.  Usually springs are harder than hacksaw teeth.

    So I bought a lathe

Lathe tool crashing. Years ago I was told about a new lathe at the Post Office workshops that had crashed so that it was unusable. It was intentional.  Some oke set it in the highest power feed position & highest spindle speed with everything engaged and toolpost near tailstock. but motor off...

Life in America - We made the move.

Your latest plan of each powertool on a loose square board is a great idea.  Completely adaptable and uncomplicated.  If the bases are all the same then you can move the tools anywhere so your space is completely adaptable to suit the job in hand.

Re your score on the band saw.  You certainly did score big time. I remember the story of a guy I knew who bought a second hand band saw from a RC priest.  The priest said he had to confess that it was not a good band saw at all but my buddy bought it anyway.  He had spotted that all that was...

Non functioning spark plugs - that is very odd.  Are they perhaps ones with inbuilt suppressors whereas the old ones are without?  What else could defeat the high tension voltage?  A short inside the spark plug?  But those plugs were working before were they not?  Brilliant that you had others &...

I have only recently been following this thread again.  Some pages back you were looking for screws, bolts and nuts.  Here in Cape Town Topfast stock various imperial fasteners.  If you get stuck you can try them.  Just be warned - they are fearsomly expensive from Topfast.  Use them only as a...

From post #102 From post #104 I long ago came to realise how badly British manufacturing was debilitated by the demands of the shareholders.  The manufacturers had to keep the idle rich (investors) in luxury resulting in the manufacturing facilities becoming increasingly outdated.  In...

Most of the oldest ones have recently died.  Linked to climate change crises but difficult to prove. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/11/giant-african-baobab-trees-die-suddenly-after-thousands-of-years So spreading them elsewhere is great.  But I expect the hurricanes will rip them apart.

    How aircooled works

The air touching the fin gets heated, it expands making it less dense so it rises & leaves the fin.  Fresh, 'cool' air replaces it.  Process keeps repeating itself. Much better if the cylinder does not stand up vertically.  Really good in old BMW air cooled boxer engines. Now if heat is inside...
