KTM 500 EXC for Dual Sport riding

My 2c and experience in riding a 500 the last 5 or 6 years - we regularly ride tours and even enduro rides in temps approaching or over 40 degrees. And slow riding where the engine has to work, not fast gravel. Stuff like Khaudum sand in the summer. Have had fuel bubbling in my tank a couple...

Where has your bike taken you today?

Somewhere on the plains between Iona and Espinheira in Angola. Not quite today but last week.

Ek het wel 'n gesig vir radio, maar die klink na 'n lekker storie!

    KTM 500 olie

Another vote for Motul, been using it in my 500 for 4 years now - way cheaper than the Swiss gold and works just as well.

    BIB Mousse question

Full disclosure - we did manage to cook a mousse on our last Angola trip: Bit of Angolan ingenuity and tyre lever manufacturing later: We got going with a bunch of chinese tubes and off we went: What happened was there was a misunderstanding with the bikeshop and instead of putting in...

    To cush-drive or not?

EXC500 It has cush rubbers in the clutch. If you ride dirt not problem, if you ride tar then yes I can possibly see it helping.

    BIB Mousse question

This is our experiences as well on the 500's. We replace the mousses every 2nd tyre change, and even then I feel there is still a bit of life left. 5 years and many, many thousands of off-road KM's and not a single problem.

Lift for 3 books - SA to Namibia

Hi All, I bought 3 books, but they can only be delivered to an SA address. Is there anyone coming up to Namibia who'd be willing to bring it? Just 3 normal soft-cover books. Thanks!

    KTM Pics

Hey Wolzak - Tut mir leid - du musst mal besuchen kommen? Down the Omaruru was 215km to Cape Cross.  Going up the Ugab we did about 255km.  This is typically within the range of our fuel tanks (15.5L) but because we anticipated softer conditions we took a couple of 2L bottles worth of fuel...

    KTM Pics

Went down the Omaruru river from Uis: Camped at Cape Cross Lodge: Then explored (was raining heavily so wanted to experience the green) up the Ugab as close as to the mouth as one can legally enter: Got muddy Found the green: Some larger than life rock formations: And back to...

    Economically adventurizing a EXC 500

You can throw money and mods at it but I personally think it's not the right weapon for long gravel stretches.  Rather then get a 690/701 for that and depending on the sort of enduro riding you do you might even be better served by a 250 / 300 two stroke.

Adventure boots with the best ankle protection

Gaerne SG12's.  Hand made in Italy for what it's worth and protection is second to none.  In terms of longevity - Spare parts also very readily available and they can easily be re-soled by a cobbler. They are pricy though, coming in at around 12K but as someone that's broken one ankle and did...

    Mechanic in Swakopmund or Windhoek

Can also recommend Yamaha Windhoek - chat to Tommy.  It doesn't matter if it's not a Yamaha - if there's any way that he can help you he will.
