I used to do that trip regularly from Mossel Bay and found from here best through Graaf Reinet, Middleburg, Winberg, Bethlehem, Harrismith, Dbn. It's longer in distance but shorter in time and going through GN and Middleburg you avoid a lot of heavy trucks.
