My water pump went at about 50,000km. The oil return pipe is very difficult to (re) fit, so mechanic cut the pipe to use hose clamps and short bit of flexible hose. Replaced the fuel pump, but turns out it was a bad connection.

Steelmate - fairly cheap piece of mind. I don't bother with the locking ring, since my bike sleeps in the garage.

I should maybe give those a try, The C-brace ones are an overkill and not super comfy

I have Leatt C-braces and wear them underneath my riding pants. Took the soft padding out of the pants, but fits ok. Those pants in the pic look tight though. I think it is better to have braces/guards underneath pants so that the pants protect the braces against abrasion and dirt.

I feel a "fly can stop a train" argument brewing. If a fly is travelling towards a train and hits the train head on, what happens? Fly stops moving in direction of travel, stops and moves in opposite direction at train speed. Hence fly must have stopped the train for a split second... Point is...

Ran 1 bar front and back in deep sand - all 17 participants in the sand course did the same - GS1250s, KTMs, my "light" Dakar. One guy had problem with tyre going flat, probably got sand on the bead.

Welcome. if you take advice from another newby - you've invested significantly in a very nice and capable bike. Consider doing an ADV course and learn basics (again). Build skills in the correct order and in a safe (and fun) environment.
