The front rim of my 800GS is dinged. I can get a good condition 2nd hand rim from one of our friendly Dogs, but it's the rim only, no spokes, hub, etc. Is it possible to transplant my current spokes and hub onto the replacement rim, and who in the Cape Town area would be able to do something...

Anyone have a good condition 800GS front rim lying around? Perhaps one with some negligible "smileys" that pale in comparison to my huge "smile" 😁 Hulle maak die goed te sag, man...

I'm moving house and clearing out. I've got this hard-cover Haynes service & repair manual for the single cylinder F650 series (incl. Dakar). The new ones are hellishly expense (see attached). R250, I'm in Somerset West.

The clutch on my 2009 800GS (83000 km) has been slipping for a while now, time for replacement. BMW has just quoted me R7445 for the plate kit (metal + friction plates only), plus gasket, oil, labour = around R10k. As per another thread on here, I contacted Motorcycle World re: aftermarket...

My 800GS (2009) has started cutting out occasionally when idling, e.g. waiting at a robot. Never immediately, it idles for a while, I can see the rev needle pulsating slightly and hear the idle becoming shaky, then dies. Starts up again with no problems. Any ideas?

What is the general consensus on lithium bike batteries? My F800GS (2009 model) takes a ETX14-BS (14 Ah). Can I replace it with one of these? This is the 48 Wh model, CC amps = 280 A. R2199 on Takealot. Also, a smaller version: 24 Wh, CCA = 140 A. R1244 on Takealot.

I have an intermittent problem that my speedo doesn't zero out correctly, e.g. on the attached pic you can see it only goes down to 20 km/h when I power the bike off. After restart, it picks up from that as zero, so my speedo moves and reads 20 km/h over the actual value. Sometimes it sorts...

My F800GS is 13 years old. It's still in very good condition, but points of rust are coming through the powder coating on the frame. Is there any way to treat this that doesn't involve a complete strip and re-coating? I tried painting NS1 Rust Buster over the coating, which seemed to work for...

I'm cleaning out the garage and found these. I ordered them years ago for my Dakar, but received the wrong size. Not sure which bike models they would fit: at first I thought it was for the 1150, but I might be wrong... The bolt that screws into the handlebar is M8, the top part accepts an M10...

My 800's temperature reading has been stuck on 19 C for days now. Definitely not 19 at the moment, more like 39! Note this is the ambient temp, not from the coolant thermostat. Have disconnected battery, etc. No luck. Where is that sensor located?  Any other ideas?
