Do you have fuel? These bikes have a vacuum operated fuel pump - check it's connected and working.

I've not felt the need to fit a steering damper on my 640. She does shake her head a bit if you suddenly hit sand but settles down pretty quick. It might be good if you ride hard in sand or rocks a lot. My bike came with the Touratech hard luggage and racks. Fitted them just to see the look...

I once rode my 640 back from Durban in a day. My arse was tingling for weeks afterwards! 300km in a day is ok though. It has enough power to run at 140kph plus but is far more comfortable at 120 on tar (or below) but no where near a 1200GS. On dirt though, a different story. Still have fun...
