"Engine Cleaner" Which brand is best?

I use Valvoline (red) or Castrol (Blue) degreaser bought at the spares shop as it works well. In my experience Prepsol works really bad.

    RD07A compression test

I don't know the max compression difference, but if oil improves the front and not the rear, it shows there is a valve leakage issue. This could be due to a burnt valve (hope not), dirt under the seat (carbon, but not frequent issue) or a valve simply needs adjusting. It could also be due to...

    What's in the AT's toolkit

Mine's toolkit has 15 pieces in. I remember this as I always count it when I put back. 13 pieces was original. I added a 13 spanner and allen key for the crashbars. Let me see if I can remember the other 13 1) tool to loosen rear axle big nut 2) Tool for rear axle small nut 3) handle 4) flat...

My @ farked out on my way to work

In my opinion, Standard, original Honda, non synthetic. Good luck with the rebuild. I'm also waiting for parts for my XRV from Davidsilverspares in the UK. Just a few body parts, flickers, brkts, clips. I have always been happy with their quick service and prices.

    K & N airfilters for AT

I have a K&N in my XRV. I couldn't feel / see any difference in power and fuel consumption, but I like it that I don't have to replace it but only wash it.

XRV650 Africa twin Stuttering and occasional black smoke

I would guess a carb diaphragm has a tear. (Glad to hear about another XRV650 owner. I have a 1988 model)

    Transalp rear brake disc

My 88 XRV650 (think rear disc size is approximately the same) needs a new set of rear pads every 10K to 15K km. I still have the original rear disc fitted after 60K km and it is still OK, so I suspect you might have an issue somewhere. Maybe the sliding pins are sticky? Good luck and let us know...

The Old School XRV750 Africa Twin Corner

I've used Magnatec on my XRV since I have it - almost 60 000km and had no issues with the clutch. So I think it should be OK.

The Old School XRV750 Africa Twin Corner

Oil for the engine? I use Castrol Magnatec - has been OK this far. Don't know the capacity. I only use original Honda oil filters. Oil for front forks? I use Bel ray - Has been OK this far. Think its around 550ml per fork? Oil for filter? Only original K&N to suit the filter. Grease for rear...

AT starts spluttering after about 22km

NO!!! not the coil output! that won't be a pleasant experience - the output of the voltage regulator.

AT starts spluttering after about 22km

Good luck. Hope you get to the bottom of it. It took me a while to trust my bike again after these problems. But after a Lesotho trip, 2 Mozambique trips and a cape town trip around the SA border, i trust it again!

AT starts spluttering after about 22km

My string of CDI failures were all less than a year apart. All were brand new Honda CDI's but still failed. So don't exclude a CDI just because you changed it. My XRV650 is a 88 model and still has the original coils and HT leads. Try and measure the voltage with engine running and the problem...

    Support Rod

Some people use it to check the chain slack. Can't remember exactly how, but I've seen it a long time ago and seemed to work.

    Africa Twin CDI unit

O yes - these CDI's have high voltage protection as well, so they don't get fried when the regulator goes.

    Africa Twin CDI unit

I bought mine from Germany and used it for about 9 years now without issues. The originals I bought lasted about a year a set which was quite expensive. These CDI's was designed by a electronic eng who got tired of his CDI's blowing on his TA. https://motorbike-shop.de/index.php?cPath=124...

I fitted an original Honda one. Can't remember the price but I order all my Honda parts from David silver spares in the UK. Much cheaper and more friendly than Honda.

AT starts spluttering after about 22km

I have a 88 AT 650, all original, except for CDI's. (Got some custom made ones from a German guy and its been OK since, probably 9 years) It jerked with the old CDI's, and eventually it stopped which doesn't sound like your problem as you can still keep going. Someone else with an 89 AT 650 (260...
