It sounds like the victim (not the dead piece of afterbirth) knew that it was a possible dodgy deal/situation and was well prepared to defend himself. Must be very hard up for a bike. Not something I would recommend. Well done anyways.
VSAT works very well despite the latency (+600ms) but as mentioned you need to land in another country. But if you got any services hosted in SA your efforts will be a waste of time. Starlink not an option at the moment (legally) but if you can get your hands on the kit it is possible to make it...
If I recall correctly was about R1200 including work. Took bike to local bike shop in Centurion when I stayed there. Here in Cape Town Mad Max bikes did it for me.
NC750 is a very capable bike and can be fun as well. Got 124 000km without any problems. Not only light on fuel but also does not destroy tires with excessive power.
