I have been looking at maybe buying a 1150 as a second bike. This bike will be used for Sunday breakfast runs, and the longer trips. My biggest reason for wanting a BMW 1150 GS/GSA is the fact that it is a good pillion bike.
The thing that I don't get is why there is the big hype about the adventure? What makes the GS adventure so much better then a normal GS? I did some Google for specs and the biggest difference I see is the tank.
I looked at the specs here and it is very close to me.

What am I missing here? I can get a good condition 2003 GS with standard and a extra large 41L tank plus, panniers, top-box, crash-bars ++ for just over R50 000, a similar 2003 GSA will set me back R75 000. Is it really worth spending that much more on the GSA?
